On the heels of yesterday’s announcement by Indiana Beach that it is closing, today we have confirmation that Fantasy Island is truly closing as well. The news was released by operator Apex Parks Group. In addition to Fantasy Island and Indiana Beach, 2 family entertainment centers in Texas are also closing.
Fantasy Island is located in New York in between Buffalo and Niagara Falls. It is one of several parks in the area. The others are Marineland and Six Flags Darien Lake. The news was unexpected with no prior notice or signs given. Up until this week, the park was selling season passes. Apex Parks Group invested in the park as recently as last season with a refurbishment of the park’s kids area.
Lost in this closure is the CCI wooden coaster Silver Comet. This ride was the park’s signature attraction that was immediately recognizable to visitors traveling to Niagara Falls. The park also has a wild mouse coaster, Disk-O and a sizable collection of flat rides. This was one of the few theme parks in the US where guests could go canoeing.
It was announced that a search for an operator had taken place, but none was found and thus the park was definitively shutting down. Check out photos from our visit to Fantasy Island. Hopefully the streak of bad news for theme parks will come to an end soon.
